(MOORESVILLE, N.C. - December 22, 2011) - Two weeks after announcing his 2012 race plans with Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, Ryan Reed got behind the wheel of an ARCA car for the first time during open testing at the track that every young aspiring racecar driver dreams of racing at Daytona International Speedway.

As Ryan and his teammates entered the track for the first day of ARCA testing, owner and competition director at Venturini Motorsports, Billy Venturini, looked at his drivers and told them to soak it all in and appreciate every moment of it.

That is exactly what Ryan did – lap after lap. With three days of open testing at Daytona Int’l Speedway under his belt, this rookie left an impression after topping the speed charts during the second session on the first day of testing.

Ryan Reed drove a best lap of 48.857 seconds (184.211 mph) in the second session of ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards open testing at the 2.5-mile oval, just edging teammates Brennan Poole, John Stancill, and Mark Thompson. Poole led the morning with a best lap of 48.915 seconds, and he and Reed were the only drivers to top that mark in the four-hour afternoon session.

"With both this series and track being completely new to me it was definitely a learning experience. In the first test session today there were a couple glitches that Billy was able to spot with the use of Dartfish and we were able to clean up my line so I could give more consistent laps,” said Reed. “I went out for the second session and ended up at the top of the board. It was pretty neat leaving Daytona today being the fastest car. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the weekend. All of the guys at Venturini Motorsports have done a great job preparing me a such fast race car."

While the stand out performance by rookie driver Ryan Reed and Venturini Motorsports at Daytona Int’l Speedway was impressive, it was the events off the track that weekend that touched Ryan the most.

Kaylah, an 8 year old girl with Type 1 Diabetes, traveled to Daytona Int’l Speedway just to meet Ryan. She had learned that Ryan was also diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and was still has been able to live out his life chasing his dreams even though he was told he would never race again. Kaylah looked up to Ryan as a role model and dreamed of meeting him.

“Ryan walks in and this 18 year old was so out going, engaging, and overall just a stand up young man all around,” said Ryan Hall, family friend of Kaylah and Advance Auto Parts District Leader. “He talked in depth with Kaylah the entire day. They connected on such a personal level. This young man spent over 30 minutes with Kaylah talking to her showing her how and what all the buttons do in his race car with her sitting in the driver seat. We ate lunch right there with the entire team, watched Ryan practice, spent time in the garage as they tweaked the cars, and had a load of FUN!”

After the event Kaylah’s grandmother reached out to Ryan Hall and Advance Auto Parts and said, “Advance Auto Parts has proven time and time again to be so much more than a Corporate Partner of JDRF to Kaylah. Thank you to all that made this day happen as Kaylah will forever have her memories of that day!”

Kaylah also wanted to share her experience with us, she said “It was so much fun meeting Ryan Reed, he let me sit in his racecar. He was really nice to me and he gave me lots of things and autographed them for me. I got to see him on the track and he started in 4th place and ended up in 1st. He is a really good driver. Ryan invited me back to the race on February 18th. I had so much fun and can’t wait to go back to school and tell all of my friends.”

The Advance Auto Parts Region 43 team would also like to thank Ryan Reed and Venturini Motorsports for partnering with us to help make a little girls dream come true. It was truly an amazing experience! You are true Heroes on and off the track!!! Heroes serving Heroes!!
